At a press conference today at San Francisco City Hall, organizer Phelicia Jones said, "Two weeks ago there were thousands of people out here protesting. Now that we are digging in to policy work to advocate for change, there are only dozens of us out here today." I'm reminded of the invitation and need for sustained civic engagement. Following a string of SFPD killings of people of color and a racist text scandal the Department of Justice made 272 reform recommendations to SFPD. Our Black brothers and sisters are calling us, as white allies, to “do the work” of examining our inner racism and implicit support of unjust and unequal systems. And we are being invited to commit ourselves to sustained efforts to dismantle systemic racism. This learning lab is designed as an on ramp for white Christians who want to take practical steps to become anti-racist justice seekers. Each session will begin with listening to and learning from a black leader.
