WE EMBRACE OUR LIVES & OUR TIMES AS A GIFT & SACRED TRUST
• We believe we are part of good creation.
• We believe we live in a world we were made to enjoy, embrace and cultivate.
• We believe God’s glory and presence are revealed in the created world.
• We believe our lives are pregnant with meaning and purpose.
• We believe we were made for the times we are living in.
• We believe a creator who has our best interests in mind intimately loves us.
• We believe we must negotiate with God to discover how we are being loved in every moment of our lives.
I asked the group, Which statement excites you the most? Which is the most difficult to believe?
Right now I struggle with the statement: “We believe our lives are pregnant with meaning and purpose.” I’m challenged to find meaning and purpose amidst the mundane details and messiness of daily life– dealing with lead abatement issues in the repainting of our or the piles of files to be sorted on my desk. Here’s why that word pregnant” is an important qualifier in the affirmation– suggesting that meaning and purpose are present, but not always visible– or the meaning of this moment might be in context of future unveiling. One of the exercises in this Learning Lab is daily journalling, and this morning I wrestled a bit with my chronic existential angst :”I want to live naked to the reality of God in this moment– to bring my whole being into unity and resonance with the creator’s will and intentions.”
