In August our family makes an annual pilgrimage to Palm Springs California to escape the summer/winter fog that hangs over the city. Its a stress free week to enjoy the sun, connect as a family and reflect on what’s ahead. Each year I read Henri Nouwen’s short book, Way of the Heart, a reflection on silence, solitude and prayer inspired by the desert fathers and mothers of the 4th century. The lesson we are reminded of by our time in the desert: slow down and make space to hear and trust God’s voice.
